The SEDIAHOCKEY SlackBoard by nature of its design offers a variable feedback loop to the neuromuscular system that results in an increased level of demand and stress that drives adaptation in a positive manner for the athlete.

A narrow base of support when aligned along the length of the foot mimics the contact a hockey athlete has with their playing surface. This creates opportunities for extreme specificity to the sport of hockey.

A variable counterforce to athlete-applied forces in a closed kinetic chain (CKC) movement system that requires the nervous system to properly modulate force production. This also creates an environment that aligns with sport-specific principles: Hockey players do not compete against static opponents or in a completely stable environment.

The line creates tremendous challenges for the neuromuscular system as it attempts to maintain proper upright positioning where the athletes’ center of mass can remain in a functional position inside their base of support. (Which is moving and can be extremely narrow – Just like hockey!) This results in a high frequency of Musculoskeletal adjustments that are being run by the athletes’ nervous system. Every one of these is a repetition for the nervous system to succeed - stay up and strong. These result in advanced opportunities for adaptation. When you examine every muscle involved, it’s ultimately thousands of smaller exercises during each one repetition.

Initially, all athletes will be challenged with just the ability to maintain simple athletic postures on the line. Athletes are not compromised with anything beyond their body weight until they achieve more advanced levels.

Bodyweight exercises are safe for all ages. Age-appropriate loading of the musculoskeletal system with weights beyond body weight does come with risk which is eliminated with the SEDIAHOCKEY SlackBoard. The when and how to do that is athlete-dependent. The ability to introduce progressive challenges without adding the risks associated with outside resistance in the form of weights is a risk-mitigated way to increase demand on the neuromuscular system.
